Tim Ferriss on Blogging Without Killing Yourself

Tim Ferris had a good lecture on how to blog without killing yourself. If you want to become a better blogger, it’s important to learn from the best.

Here are some key notes I extracted from the lecture:

WHY BLOG?

Love, be loved, never stop learning.

Access to people with resources – best for networking and meeting people

FREQUENCY

7 a.m. and 6 p.m. – best times for posting

Best response on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

Post once or twice a week

Change of label “category” to “topic” increased involvement

Alternate the “best posts” category to eliminate the self-fulfilling prophecy

Omit the date, because the users are biased for new content

Put up an estimated reading time

RESEARCH

Use Twitter for polling and Slinkset for refining the choices

Use Evernote for storing information and as a brain dump / brainstorming place

WRITING

You don’t have to be a great writer, but having a voice is essential to becoming popular

Passion beats polling by far

Never attack other people – write about the problem, not the person

Find the best time for your synthesis

Edit the important posts by hand

Stick to one topic per post

Use StumbleUpon as a source of traffic

COMMMENTS

Read them!

CONCLUSION

Have fun!
